조각 구성

The patterns of patchwork.

10 ways jogakbo makers arranged their scraps, from even squares to pinwheels. The same layouts make the patterned cloths across this catalog.

Jogakbo makers did not follow named patterns; each cloth was built up from whatever scraps were at hand, usually joined first into small squares and then extended outward to size. The layout names used here come from Korean design and costume studies (2005 to 2021) that sort surviving pieces by how their surface is divided: grids, pinwheels, strips, overlapping circles and free arrangements. Most surviving pieces turn out to be built on some kind of grid.
