History & tradition
Modern Korea (2000s onward)
Wrapping a bottle upright, with the corners gathered at the neck, is a modern adaptation for wine and traditional liquor given at holidays and housewarmings. Hanbok designer Lee Hyo-jae made bottle wraps a signature of the late-2000s revival (one bottle braided to look like a girl with long hair). In 2026 Lee Yun-young, president of the Korea Bojagi Art Association, demonstrated this version for the Hankook Ilbo; it can also turn a bottle into a vase.
A standard holiday wrap for wine and 전통주; Korean courses give a whole lesson to bottle forms.
