History & tradition

Joseon to 20th century households

In houses without built-in storage, bedding was folded and stacked during the day, and large cloths kept it clean and tidy. They were among the largest bojagi, often of cheap cotton or hemp. The rejected-wife version of 보쌈 recorded in Hamgyong Province used the woman's bedding cloth to carry her home.

Large wrapping cloths are still used in Korean homes to store bedding and for moving house.
