A fine, crisp, breathable bast-fiber cloth, bright white when bleached. Hansan mosi weaving was inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2011. Court inventories call it 저포 and record dyed forms: 백저포, 분홍저포, 청저포, 아청저포, 갈매저포.

History & tradition

Ancient; Hansan in South Chungcheong is the best-known centre

Ramie was woven by women, with techniques passed from mothers to daughters and daughters-in-law, and was prized for cool summer clothing from mourning dress to court wear. Its offcuts made the translucent summer jogakbo whose seams show as dark lines in the light.

Hansan mosi weaving was inscribed by UNESCO in 2011; mosi jogakbo are widely made as hangings today.
