History & tradition
Joseon to early 20th century
Many formal bojagi were made with their own tie: on a late 19th–early 20th century 기러기보 at the Seoul Museum of Craft Art, a single jade-coloured tie is sewn by its middle to one corner, so both halves wind round the bundle in opposite directions before being tied, and its ends are finished with tassels. Table-size cloths likewise had corner straps to hold dishes when a table was carried.
Reproduced by contemporary bojagi makers on wedding and gift cloths; museum examples show the original form.
