History & tradition
East Asian auspicious imagery; early 20th-century court cloth
The gourd appears with bats and a 壽 roundel on Prince Yeong's consort's jewellery wrapper, and is one of the Eight Immortals' treasures printed on a Huh-collection cloth. The reading of many descendants is a general East Asian convention; neither source states it.
Researched with low confidence.
