History & tradition
Joseon
A 도래매듭 with an ear pulled out on each side, the 귀도래매듭 has more regional names than any basic knot: 외귀매듭 at court, 납작이매듭 in Seoul, 콩매듭 in Namwon, 귀도리매듭 in Daegu. Those names show how the craft was practised in separate centres (palace, Seoul markets, the south) with their own vocabularies. It is the base of the 꼰디기, 매미, 게눈 and 가재눈 knots.
